HAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAH korean tourists are crazy. you need to find a local! someone who understands what kind of hiking you are looking for and is into that stuff ^_^. hahahhahaha hahahhahahhahah ahahhahahha koreans, well probably asians in general, seem to have a high priority for "dressing the part" i find myself do the exact same thing.

You have to always keep in the mind the sheer number of people who live in seoul. There just aren't that many options for enjoying "nature" and hiking is fairly popular because of the low expense. I've heard of hiking clubs within companies and other community groups where they organize hikes as regular outings. You should usually assume that anything "fun" thats close to Seoul will be crowded. Espescially crowded on weekends and holidays.
Anyway if you want some intense hikes maybe you should try to hike Soraksan. Great views and though theres a cable car there are some vista's only accessible by long hikes.

i agree! my time in soraksan was very positive. well except when i refused to get naked at the spa. hahahahha. i know my cousin can answer questions about it, her parents were the ones that took me! and actually, id unno if i was just going during a quiet spell or something, but there were so few people around when i went!
hey. I definitely agree, however, the hiking that I did was about 3 hours away from Seoul...eeep. And at Saraksan, the news report said that the number of people hiking the last weekend was at a record high. I had some friends that went that weekend instead of going with us down south, and their experienced seemed much the same.
eep they cut of the rest of my comment! what I was going to say was, that i think hiking and the love of outdoors is just shared by everyone, and I just have to expext when going to popular spots, at this time of th year, you will just see a lot of people. I really just wasn't prepared for it. I guess in the states I theres more space to work with and lazier people. ^_^ I def at some point want to see saraksan though. I hear the view and spa is amazing! I think I should just wait a little bit to let the hiking craze go down a little bit. OH yeah, hiking in numbers is really popular because companies all over Korea fund, and create trips to build more of a family/community amoung their co-workers too! kind of neat.
